Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in Microsoft Word, OpenOffice, or RTF document file format.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Submission Guidelines
  • The Author warrants and represents that the Work does not infringe upon any copyright, proprietary, or personal right of any third party. If the Work contains any material that is owned or controlled by a third party, the Author certifies that he/she has obtained permission for its use and that the material is clearly acknowledged within the text. This warrant concerns the entire manuscript, text as well as pictures, sound, video, data sets etc. The author also warrants to us that he/she has full authority to enter into this agreement and that the rights he/she is granting to Incontri are done so without breaching any obligations he/she may have.
  • All authors have given permission to be listed on the submitted paper. The corresponding author is authorized to speak on behalf of the authors.
  • All DOIs for the references have been provided, when available.

General guidelines

Please read the information on the Peer Review Process on this website and follow the below guidelines.

Incontri provides immediate open access to its content. Author(s) retain copyright of their articles. Articles are distributed under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 Unported License (CC-BY 3.0).

Authors are not required to pay any charges or fees, such as Article Processing Charges (APC's).

  1. Contributions are published with the approval of the editorial board of Incontri, which operates independently from the board of Werkgroep Italië Studies.
  2. Authors will receive no financial compensation for their submissions. Authors will receive a copy of the journal issue, once it has been published.
  3. Length of contributions: (peer reviewed) articles 5000-8000 words (including notes), short articles 2000-3000 words (including notes), translations 3000 words, interviews 3000 words, reviews 1000 words, notes 750 words.
  4. Contributions must be in Italian, Dutch or English.
  5. Articles must be submitted with the following information: (a) 5 key words; (b) a brief biography of the author (about 100 words) in the same language as the article; (c) preferred contact details (home or work address); (d) a brief abstract of about 200 words, in English (if the article is in Italian) or in Italian (if the article is in Dutch or English). 
  6. Short articles and translations must be submitted with (a) brief biography of the author (about 100 words) in the same language as the article (b) address (work or private) and e-mail.
  7. Reviews and notes must be submitted with address (work or private) and e-mail.
  8. You are welcome to include images in your article. Please make sure that they have a resolution of at least 300 dpi and that you provide captions and quotations. The author is fully responsible for the copyright of the images and ensures that permission has been obtained for use of copyrighted material.
